Pullman Restaurant awarded 2 AA Rosettes

The Pullman Restaurant at Glenlo Abbey Hotel, Galway, has been awarded 2 AA Rosettes in recognition of their culinary excellence. Set aboard two carriages from the iconic Orient Express, the restaurant offers a unique dining experience as well as spectacular views across the spacious Glenlo Abbey estate to nearby Lough Corrib.

AA Rosettes are awarded solely for the quality of the restaurant’s cooking that demonstrates consistent standards of all dishes on the menus. To specifically achieve an AA Rosette Award, innovation, greater technical skills, consistency and judgement in combining and balancing ingredients are required. Rosettes are only awarded to those restaurants which aim for and achieve higher standards. They must exhibit greater precision in their cooking and selection of quality ingredients.

While an AA Rosette purely recognises the quality of the food on the plate, the AA’s Inspectors were highly complimentary of the restaurant setting and décor.  The two refurbished railway carriages, which plied their way between Paris and Venice during the roaring 20s, are elegantly decorated and offer high quality appointments reminiscent of the original railway. With an engaging wait team, the Pullman Restaurant truly offers guests a nostalgic dining experience.

Of their cuisine itself, the AA’s Inspectors noted real consistency at all times, a must when an AA Rosette is being awarded. Describing a short yet carefully composed menu of local and traditional food, the AA’s inspectors complimented the quality and combination of the ingredients served. The decadent chocolate pudding was a real hit! Their menu consists of seasonal game options, interesting fish dishes and quality vegetarian offerings.

“Congratulations to Head Chef Alan McArdle, Sous Chef Michael Safarik and their team on achieving 2 AA Rosettes. The Pullman Restaurant aboard the Orient Express is a truly unique venue and we’re delighted that they have reached this level on their fine dining journey.  We wish them every success in reaching the very high standards needed to attain 2 AA Rosettes,” says Conor Faughnan, Director of Consumer Affairs, AA Ireland.

Other amenities at the AA appointed property include a lakeside golf course, private cocktail bar, and banquet hall for weddings and other events.  Its idyllic setting on the shores of Lough Corrib also lends itself very well as the perfect base for fishing on the West Coast of Ireland.
