Cycling on the Estate

Enjoy a cycle ride around Glenlo Abbey Estate with views overlooking Lough Corrib and the rugged landscape into Connemara.

Make use of our estate bicycles, complimentary to our hotel residents. We can arrange a picnic for you, to get away from it all and take advantage of the 138 acres.

Galway City Cycling Tours

Take a cycle tour of Galway City with Galway City Cycle Tours. Starting in Salthill, you will cycle to the Famine Monument and Nimmos Pier. Cutting through the west you visit the home of actor and author Walter Macken and continue onto the beautiful and peaceful Eglington canal before entering the grounds of the National University of Ireland Galway.

Mountain Bike Trails in Connemara

For the more adventurous why not take on the magnificent Derroura Mountain Bike Trail.
Derroura Mountain Bike Trail Network, is over 16 km in length and lies at the gateway to Connemara. The trails offer you massive views north into the Maam valley and westwards to the Twelve Pins.
Derroura offers you some incredible mountain biking in some of the most spectacular scenery in Connemara. You will face long climbs and thrilling descents with great views overlooking the entire of Lough Corrib from the halfway point of the trails.
There are fabulous views of the Twelve Pins and Connemara landscape and it is a must for anyone who wants to experience Wild Ireland.

Using specially designed bikes with suspension to absorb the lumps and bumps of off-road terrain, this is all about feeling the squelch of mud under your tyres and the backsplash from puddles spattering your face as you explore rough forest roads, narrow twisting routes through the trees and hair raising descents.

With our unique location, only 2 miles from Galway, yet we have the beautiful Connemara just on our doorstep. Choose from a number of nearby cycles. We can arrange for you to be collected here at Glenlo Abbey Hotel where you can choose from a number of nearby cycles, depending on what level or distance you wish to travel.  This service is currently operating on a restricted basis due to social distancing guidelines 

Easy: Moycullen to Oughterard 24km/ 15 miles 
Easy to Moderate: Moycellen to Spiddal and Glenlo Abbey 36km / 23 miles
Moderate: Oughterard - via Shanaghfeistin - Maam Cross 57km/ 35 miles
